Suspect in Brown and MIT shootings identified as Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente, found dead.
Authorities say the suspect in Saturday’s mass shooting at Brown University — which killed two students and wounded nine others during a finals week review session — is the same man believed to have fatally shot a prominent nuclear scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology days later.
Providence police identified the suspect as Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente.
Authorities said Neves-Valente was found dead Thursday evening. The announcement came after hours of heavy police activity outside a storage unit linked to him in Salem, New Hampshire, where officers in tactical gear were seen surrounding the area.
Neves-Valente, 48, was a Portuguese national who studied physics at Brown University from the fall of 2000 through the spring of 2001, according to Brown President Christina Paxson.
He later took a leave of absence and formally withdrew from the university in 2003.
